Statement of Rev. A.M.A. Blanchette's Interpreter Concerning the Whitman Massacre [manuscript], circa 1847-1900.

Copy of a typed statement recounting the reasons the Cayuse Indians killed Dr. Marcus Whitman, his wife Narcissa, and their fellow missionaries in the incident commonly known as the "Whitman Massacre." The author and interpreter is only identified by the name "Louis." A note attached to the front of the document states that this copy was found in the Frederick Bickel home, circa 1955, and appears to be a copy of a legal disposition. The document is undated, and is unclear as to if the statement was taken shortly after the murders, or if it was recorded several years later.
